I’ve had a bit of time to spend on the OfflineBible today and I’ve managed to complete a few things that were on my to-do list (and a few that weren’t). In no particular order:
- Offline capability
Once you have installed, you should be able to disconnect from the internet and still use the OfflineBible. Just type the URL into your browser (note that it’s my.offlinebible.com, not www.offlinebible.com) and the page should load. - Error handling
If the installation process fails you have a good chance of getting an error message rather than a script error reported by your browser. However, there isn’t much by way of automatic recovery (if you get a problem try re-installing, or turning it off and on again). - Package management
While you still can’t manage packages, you are now able to at least see what is being installed. One of the main changes is that the software won’t try to install every time you visit. There are also some pretty new graphics on the welcome screen. Incidentally, you can use the “enter” key to automatically select the “Read” option. - Reference parsing
It is now possible to enter a Bible reference into the search box and have the requested chapter load. Let me know how you get on, and if there are any book abbreviations which you use that don’t load the expected passage. - Bugs
Fixed a few rendering errors around the Bible navigator. Selecting Revelation 22 used to make the scrollbars appear (all browsers), and some of the chapter selections were actually a pixel or two out of line.
Ah, it’s 3am. I think I should go to bed now.

I love this! Thanks.
What do you need to include other versions (and translations) of the Bible? Apart from copyright permission, do the texts have to be formatted in some special coded way?
I do plan to make other non-copyright Bibles available, but I’ve got to get the KJV working first. I’ve got my own data format for the Bibles which I’m using as a basis for the current KJV. It’s not finished yet though, as I need to add indexing information for doing fast word lookups and searches.
The reason it’s gone very quiet over the last few weeks is that I’ve got about 5 talks on the go at the moment, so I’m going to be occupied with those for the next month or so. Come mid-August, I should have some more time to burn into the OfflineBible again.
Thanks for the comment, you’re the first to express an interest on this site so good to have some feedback!
Hi Cuz! This is such a great concept. I have the eSword but I like the concept of this much better; it’s certainly more easy to read on a netbook, and it will enable me to answer a lot of my own questions. Great UI too.
Keep working hard on it….and let me know if I can help.
